Life-changing events have a way of clarifying what truly matters. For years, I found myself stuck in the relentless pursuit of more—more money, bigger homes, nicer cars. It was an exhausting cycle driven by societal expectations rather than genuine fulfillment.
Then came my divorce, a painful yet powerful turning point. It forced me to pause, reflect, and reassess everything. I asked myself: What actually brings me happiness? What do I truly value?
As I navigated this process, I realized the lifestyle I was chasing—luxury, excess, and constant busyness—wasn’t what I genuinely wanted. Instead, I discovered the joy of simplicity. I longed for slow mornings with my children, afternoons spent exploring new places, and the emotional peace that comes with fewer possessions and responsibilities.
Research supports this shift: studies show that beyond a certain point, more money doesn’t significantly increase happiness. Rather, meaningful relationships, connection, and a sense of freedom bring deeper, lasting contentment (Harvard Business Review, 2019).
This clarity led me to a significant decision—I’m leaving the comfort of my home in the U.S. to embark on an adventure through Latin America. I’m choosing a life of simplicity, meaningful relationships, and intentional living. This isn’t about running away; it’s about consciously stepping toward a lifestyle that aligns with who I genuinely am and what I value most.
As I prepare for this journey, I’m reminded that true happiness is rarely found by following societal scripts, but rather in crafting a life authentic to one’s own values and dreams. For me, that life begins now—simple, meaningful, and fully my own.
