Is This Really Happening? The Countdown Begins

Date Published: March 27, 2025

I leave for Latin America in about 55 days.

It’s coming up fast — faster than I expected — and I’m starting to feel something I didn’t expect: a little bit of “oh my god… what am I doing?”

Not doubt. Not fear. Just a wave of realization that this is no longer a far-off idea or fantasy. It’s happening. It’s real. And it’s big.

The Truth About Major Life Changes

It’s totally normal to feel a mix of excitement and stress right now. I’m standing at the edge of a massive life transition, and even though I’m 100% committed — and even thrilled — to take the leap, there are still moments where my nervous system whispers:

“Are we sure about this?”

Lately I’ve felt flashes of stress.

  • Will homeschooling be too much?
  • Will I have the energy to parent, work, and manage daily life without burning out?
  • Is this going to be easier than my current life — or harder?

These thoughts are valid. But here’s what I keep coming back to:

I’m Not Just Changing Location — I’m Changing Pace.

I’m not recreating my current life in a different country.

I’m reinventing my lifestyle entirely.

Right now, I’m living in a world of:

  • Tight routines
  • School drop-offs
  • Errands and appointments
  • Constant juggling and mental load

But the life I’m moving into is one of:

  • Intentional slowness
  • Simplicity
  • Connection
  • More presence and less pressure

The overwhelm I’m feeling now is coming from trying to imagine my new life through the lens of my current one.

But nothing about what’s coming is going to look or feel the same.

Why This Might Actually Be Easier Than What I’m Doing Now

1. My time becomes mine.

There will be no rush to beat traffic. No cramming school lunches. No rigid clock.

There’s more space — literally and emotionally.

2. The environment supports connection.

I’ll be in places where children are embraced, not squeezed into schedules.

Where mornings are slow, where nature is part of our day, not something squeezed in at the end.

3. Homeschooling won’t be like school at all.

It’ll be flexible, fluid, and experiential.

We’ll learn through:

  • Conversations
  • Travel
  • Markets, history, nature, and life itself

4. Work will become more intentional.

It won’t be something I try to cram in between everything else.

It’ll be something I approach with more clarity, focus, and peace.

What I’m Really Feeling Isn’t Doubt — It’s the Weight of Transition

This isn’t about fear of making the wrong choice.

This is about:

  • Letting go of the familiar
  • Embracing the unknown
  • A little grief for the life I’m leaving behind
  • And a lot of anticipation for the one I’m creating

So if you’re ever standing at the edge of something big, and you feel this strange cocktail of nerves and excitement — don’t mistake it for doubt.

It’s just your nervous system catching up to your soul.

I’m Ready. Even When I Feel the Waves.

I know this is the right path for me.

I’ve dreamed of this kind of freedom for years.

And now that it’s almost here, I just need to remind myself:

> I’m choosing a simpler life — not a harder one.

> I’m choosing intention, not chaos.

> I’m choosing growth, joy, and connection — for me and my kids.

This is what I want.

And I’m ready.

Even if some days, I need to breathe through the bigness of it all.
